Miles Davis & John Coltrane - Kind of blue

Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 September 28, 1991) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer.

Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in jazz from World War II to the 1990s: he played on various early bebop records and recorded one of the first cool jazz records; he was partially responsible for the development of hard bop and modal jazz, and both jazz-funk and jazz fusion arose from his work with other musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s; and his final album blended jazz and rap. Many leading jazz musicians made their names in Davis’s groups, including pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist John Coltrane, saxophonist Kenny Garrett, and guitarist John McLaughlin.

As a trumpeter, Davis had a pure, round sound but also an unusual freedom of articulation and pitch. He was known for favoring a low register and relatively sparse playing that served the song rather than display flashy playing, but Davis was also capable of highly complex and technically demanding trumpet work.

On March 13, 2006 Davis was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame, Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame, and Down Beat’s Jazz Hall of Fame.

The King of Fighters ‘96 - Arashi no Saxophone #2 (Iori Yagami Team)

Since the King of Fighters ‘96 has a good soundtrack, I decided to take the time to upload some tracks from that too. This is the theme of the popular Iori Yagami. Iori may be in my top 10 favorite KOF characters, although he isn’t one of my best, I like using him from time to time.

I know this is the theme for the whole team, but I personally don’t care for Mature or Vice, so I didn’t bother adding them.

Chitlins Con Carne (originally by Kenny Burrell) On Sax and Guitar

STEREO Version here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xPSD7jSSYrg&fmt=18

Did Kenny Burrell and Stanley Turrentine have a 5 year old bouncing around them and spinning their chair while recording the original? No. That is why this version is nowhere near as good. I was playing it from memory, not music, and I realise that I don’t play it like the original phrasing, oops, never mind (its a bit dumbed down, sorry). Like a good Chili con Carne, each person brings there own interpretation, I kind of left the spice out and added too much meat though……I hope you enjoy it anyway, my little Madeline does make me laugh, and you can see we had fun.

For those that care about these things: The guitar is a telecaster thinline USA 90’s, straight into Logic. By rights I should of used my Guild X-150, bit more suited to this tune, but I just grabbed the tele out of laziness (it is my lap guitar)

The sax is a Selmer Reference 36 with an otto link NY 7* mouthpiece and a 3 rico royal reed. The piano, bass and drum backing is from the new Hal Leonard Real Book 6th Edition backing tracks (amazon have them here http://www.amazon.com/Real-Book-Vol-Play-Along-3CDs/dp/1423433521 Be careful though you need the real book itself in addition, and each pack of cds is only a quarter of the book (not all songs as well) The book is here, and pretty much essential for any jazz musician http://www.amazon.com/Real-Book-B-Flat-Sixth/dp/0634060848 buy the right key for your instrument though. I only have in Bb, and have to wing it on the guitar
