Saxophone Videos

Although it’s Stanley Turrentine’s sultry saxophone that makes this rare track memorable for me. It was actually released in August 1964 on Scott’s album “Everybody Loves A Lover” Impulse! Records AS-73. Personnel included Bob Cranshaw on bass, Otis Finch, drums. I dedicate this video to my lifelong best friend from Chicago(HPK), Ken L. Wesley. Happy, Peaceful, Prosperous New Year to ALL who pass this way:)

Astrud Gilberto:

Singer from Brazil, born in 1940.
She became famous in the early 1960s through a recording of the Bossa Nova hit “The Girl from Ipanema”, performing alongside Stan Getz and João Gilberto (whom she was married to at that time).

Sugar is a great standard written by Stanley Turrentine. I learned it from Sonny Lewis — I watched him perform it live in San Francisco and went home and learned it immediately. It has a compelling theme and I love playing it.
